Sir Percybill soaking up his new life
On a recent trip to Broome I was able to visit Sir Percybill, the Pelican. He lives at Malcolm Douglas’s Wildlife Park situated16kms or so out of Broome. The park, which is not open yet, is due to open to thepublic later this year.
Sir Percy has regrown all the feathers around his body where his wing was taken off and even has a small tuft of black feathers where his wing use to be. He is quite content and looks fantastic! At the moment he has a whole pond all to himself, with the occasional wild pelican dropping in for a visit! Now that Sir Percy has settled in, Malcolm will be moving him to the big bird lake where he will have plenty of other birds for company and heaps of room to swim around.
While there, we were shown Huffy, a Spectacled Hare Wallaby, raised by PWCA member and relocated there to a breeding program. He now
has a lovely wife and there will hopefully soon be the patter of paws!
What a fabulous setup! What a wonderful man! For three hours we were shown around the park by Malcolm. So if you are in Broome later in the year be sure to make the time to visit the Wildlife Park.
It is a fantastic experience!
